About

There has been a rapid growth in the media attention given to Paralympic sport. Many Para sport events now receive coverage across a range of media outlets, including broadcast television, digital platforms, and in print news, with the Paralympic Games attracting extensive coverage and huge global audiences. Paralympic sport media coverage can play an important role in promoting wider forms of disability inclusion, shaping positive on screen representations of disability, and engaging with diverse disabled voices and experiences. Led by Dr Emma Pullen from Loughborough University, the Paralympic Media Research team have studied the importance of Paralympic media as a cultural asset. Through empirically driven research, the team have analysed Paralympic media content across broadcast, print and digital media, conducted large scale audience research, and engaged with key stakeholders invested in Paralympic media coverage to provide recommendations for producing inclusive, diverse and equitable coverage.
